How your outfit influences how others see you at work

Before you’ve even said a single word, others have already formed an opinion about you. That may sound harsh — but it’s human psychology.

Our brains process visual signals within seconds. And your outfit plays a central role in that. I’ve worked for years with women who are exceptionally good at what they do: competent, committed, experienced. And yet some of them are overlooked in meetings. Their ideas are heard less. Their presence isn’t perceived the way it deserves to be. The reason is rarely a lack of ability.

More often, it’s the gap between who they are — and what others see.

Your style isn’t superficial. It’s nonverbal communication. It tells the story of how you see yourself. And it influences how seriously others take you.

The good news: you don’t have to bend yourself out of shape. You don’t have to become someone else. You simply have to make visible what has always been there.
